Blasting Services was established 31 years ago in the Richmond, VA area. Over that time we have completed multiple drilling and blasting projects of varying scope, complexity, and duration. During the same time the company expanded its footprint in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Maryland. We are pre-approved through the Virginia Department of Transportation as a VDOT subcontractor specializing in drilling, blasting, and tunneling. Vendor # B881.
The current licensed blasters employed by Blasting Services have a combined 157 years of experience with 36 years as the least experienced. We have 8 John Henry Drills equipped on 320 class excavator chassis. Of the 8 drills we also have two installed on a smaller chassis to facilitate more confined conditions and the ability to drill smaller diameter holes.
Our support equipment ranges from portable magazines, extra drifters, a low-boy trailer, dump trailer, flat beds, tractors, tandem and single axel dump trucks, excavators, track and rubber tired front end loaders, a roll back unit, and fully equipped shop. We maintain a stock of bits, steels, and other tools needed for any drilling operation.
in addition to the drilling equipment we can offer a 330 class excavator equipped with a 12,000 LB. hydraulic hammer if blasting is prohibited or uneconomical.
Reliance on the general contractor is limited to providing access to the site, staking and layout of the project. However, sometimes help from other personnel for blast site security during blasting operations is needed.
We have an experience modification rating (EMR) average of 0.87 for the previous 6 years counting 2016 for our workmen’s compensation. Blasting Services maintains a high safety rating counting several consecutive years for our liability insurance. A lower than normal turnover of key employees helps to insure we keep qualified individuals employed and meet safety goals.
Blasting Services is a member of ISNetworld. This is a third party service that verifies contractors are compliant and safe prior to working with a Prime or large general contractor. ISNetworld is similar to PICS, BROWZ, ComplyWorks, PEC Premier, and other similar third party services required by large contractors, mining companies, and several leading industrial businesses to insure contractor compliance for insurance requirements and safety ratings.
Blasting Services strives to maintain regulatory compliance with the BATF&E, DOT, the Virginia State Fire Marshall’s office, and local Fire Marshalls.
Blasting Services has maintained a consistent source of supply of quality products with a major explosive manufacturer for several years. Our main office, shop, and yard is located one mile off I-64, exit 173 in Rockville, VA.
